Providence Primitive Baptist Church, located near Stringer, Mississippi, was constituted on Saturday, July 20, 1889. 

Members of a Presbytery to constitute the church were Elders A. J. Stewart, S. V. Ford, W. J. McGee, moderator, and W. S. Ferguson, clerk. 

The meeting opened with a hymn of praise. Then the Presbytery called for the reading of letters. Seven members submitted letters are follows:  J. E. Alderman and Fannie I. Alterman, J. I. Wade and P. E. Wade, Jasper N. Jones, W. M. Ford and T. J. Ford. 

Each of these brothers and sisters was found to be “orthodox in the faith”. The seven became the charter members of Providence Church. Articles of faith and rules of decorum governing the church were read and adopted. After the Presbytery extended the right hand during the singing of a hymn, the constitutional meeting ended with a prayer by A. J. Stewart.

The new church then being “duly organized and ready to transact business”, appointed W. J. McGee moderator pro tem and A. J. Stewart clerk pro tem of the first church conference. During the conference that followed, the church went into choice for a moderator and a clerk. S. V. Ford was chosen moderator and J. E. Alderman clerk.
